Even by the lofty standards of Tuscan landscapes, the Maremma coast is something special, as those signature rolling hills slowly give way to Tyrrhenian seascapes. And while an Italian villa-style hotel is always worth a look, an ocean view can only be an improvement. That, in a nutshell, is the appeal of Villa Talamo: a picture-perfect Tuscan villa, with all the extraordinary food and wine that that implies — plus the sea.

With just eight rooms, each one of them unique, it’s just about as intimate as they come. And its interiors deliver what might be the purest dose of classic Tuscan style we’ve ever seen — you’ll be hard pressed to find much evidence of the 20th century in the décor, to say nothing of the 21st.

The estate is full of gardens, courtyards, outdoor lounges, and little nooks for relaxing, with or without a glass of wine. Speaking of which, while you’ll inevitably be eating and drinking your way across the Maremma by day, you’ll want to return in time for a sunset aperitif — and with a bit of notice, Villa Talamo’s chef can prepare a meal made from the hotel’s own garden produce and market-fresh ingredients.
