When the typically Alpine respect for health and wellness meets the Italian appetite for the good life, you can generally assume you’re in for something of a treat. This is no less true in Folgaria, a town in Trentino, home of the Dolomites — and home of Blu Hotel Natura & Spa. In winter it’s perfectly placed a quick shuttle ride from the ski lifts, in summer it’s surrounded by the hiking, biking and climbing majesty of the Alps, and in its interiors it’s devoted to the kind of refreshing, restoring relaxation for which this region of Europe has become so well known.

The architectural idiom of the Blu Hotel Natura is unquestionably the classic Alpine lodge, but this is a thorougly contemporary interpretation. Knotty blonde wood is present only in occasional accents, and the décor is light and minimalistic, with spare modern furnishings and pleasantly uncluttered layouts. There’s a wellness center, equipped with infrared and Finnish saunas, a Turkish bath, and an indoor and outdoor pool, and massages and spa treatments are available as well. Breakfast and dinner are generous affairs, in keeping with the region’s reputation for hearty fare; whatever you’re up to during the day, you can be sure you’ll be properly restored.
