The spectacularly winding Ago Bay is one of Japan’s natural treasures, and it’s here that you’ll find the Hiramatsu Hotels & Resorts Kashikojima — which, despite what its name may suggest, comprises a mere eight rooms, added on to a popular destination restaurant. The concept is “western ryokan,” meaning in this case a Western visual style combined with the typically Japanese traditions of thoughtful rural hospitality. Every room comes with its own private spring-fed bath, and the spa features a thalasso pool filled with sea water from Kashikojima Island itself; the restaurant combines French culinary tradition with the finest ingredients from Shima.
