Ravouna 1906
Istiklal Caddesi No:201, Istanbul, Turkey
Beyoglu
8 Rooms
Contemporary Classic & Lively
The building, designed by architects C.P. Kyriakides and Alexandre Yenidunia for the Italian Ravouna family in 1906, features a bustling café and cocktail bar at street level, while the upper floors house eight hotel suites offering kingly views of the Bosphorus or the sprawling city below. A palpable sense of antiquity emanates from the oaken floors and marble bathrooms, offset by decidedly modern fabrics—marigold and cobalt, crimson and ebony—on bedspreads, sofas, and plentiful pillows.
The ground-floor café, whose antique-store origins persist in a series of quaint cabinets and displays on a charming wooden mezzanine, dispenses some of Istanbul’s finest espresso concoctions from a fleet of whirring, fizzing chrome mechanisms.

Everything about this stay was faultless. The Tablet Plus privileges they offer are already so generous, and then they blow you away with outstanding service. We were upgraded to a room with a seaview, which was a wonderful way to wake up to an Istanbul dawn. Mehmet was kind enough to bring me a platter of olives, cheese, tomatoes and bread when I asked about places still open for food late at night (did I mention cake? Yes, there was also cake.). Ibrahim, on duty during the day, was so kind and hospitable too, and waved away the idea of any charges for the late night snack. They're like the new friends you'll have pop in to have coffee with when next in town, even if you're not staying there. They realised when we were leaving that the trip was a birthday celebration. They were besides themselves for not having organised a cake or something special. I can't imagine how they could have made our stay any better. Thank you so much, Ravouna!
