Ty Mad

3 rue Saint-Jean, Douarnenez, France
15 Rooms
Modern Design & Secluded
In the Breton language Ty Mad means “good house,” which is a bit of an understatement for this 19th-century stone villa overlooking the Bay of Douarnenez. The exterior remains charmingly weathered, while the interiors are as contemporary as can be, setting off modern furniture and boutique-hotel details against stone walls and antique windows. With a mere 15 rooms it’s intimate but not sleepy; it’s busy enough to justify a sauna, a hammam, and a small indoor pool, as well as a restaurant where the perfectly named Didier Lecuisinier serves a modern and personal interpretation of classic coastal Breton fare.
