A short walk from Cologne’s rail station, a century-old journeymen’s house — something like a hostel for wandering craftsmen, perhaps a precursor to the modern business hotel — is now a perfectly contemporary boutique hotel. Classik Hotel Antonius’ interiors are as modern as its restored façade is historic; the rooms are visually austere but comfortable, with up-to-date electronics and marble bathrooms. There’s a Finnish sauna and a gym, as well as a restaurant, L. Fritz, that’s open for breakfast in the old Journeyman’s Hall, and moves out onto the terrace in the summertime.
