Carpe Diem

Pyrgos, Santorini, Greece

Contemporary Classic & Quiet
If you’ve made it to Santorini in the first place then the evidence suggests you’re seizing the day quite firmly as it is. But if you really want to grab the thing by the scruff of the neck and never let go, a visit to Carpe Diem is probably in order. Nothing says pure in-the-now hedonism like an infinity pool with a view of the volcanic caldera — except, perhaps, an exceedingly private suite with its own pool, its own outdoor terrace, and its own corresponding view.

Needless to say Carpe Diem is a hotel that sees its fair share of honeymoon business. It’s very much a couples sort of place, and it feels even more secluded thanks to its high elevation — what its views lack in dramatic front-row spectacle, compared to the more coastal hotels, they make up for in sheer wide-ranging panorama. The owner is the architect, which means the interiors, however subtle, are always thoughtful.

With just ten suites the vibe is always low-key, and the sleepy medieval town of Pyrgos is charming yet undemanding. Room service breakfast goes practically without saying, and you’ll only see your fellow guests at dinner, or in the bar — a sundown cocktail, with the caldera to the west, is a matter of course.

Please note: Carpe Diem cannot accommodate children under the age of thirteen. Carpe Diem is a seasonal property and is open from April through October.
