Occupying a collection of charming old houses arranged around flower-filled patios, Hôtel Le Sénéchal is a quaint boutique hotel located inside the impossibly picturesque village of Ars on Île de Ré. There’s a timeless appeal to the place: open fires crackle in the houses’ old hearths, hydrangea blooms in the courtyards, and you’ll have to make a real effort if you want to connect to wi-fi. Guest rooms are both rustic and elegant, with exposed stone and brick walls, wide wood-plank floors, and earth-toned decor. All have high-end linens and Nespresso machines, and some have fireplaces, clawfoot tubs, and views over the village’s rooftops. There’s a heated plunge pool and a well-stocked library, and the beach is just a short stroll or bike ride away, as is the famed Lighthouse of the Whales, one of the tallest in France.
