New on the hospitality scene in the Netherlands is Pillows, a luxury boutique hotel chain that, as its name implies, tends to focus on the softer, more soothing side of Dutch design. For their first hotel in Belgium they’ve renovated a grand neoclassical building on the south side of the city center, transforming it into a stately and sedate 43-room hotel: Pillows Grand Boutique Hotel Place Rouppe Brussels.
The guest rooms are clean and contemporary in style but emphasize senses other than the visual, with high-end linens, espresso machines, walk-in showers and wireless sound systems. They’re double-glazed for light sleepers and there’s a pillow menu available on request, naturally — as you’d expect from a hotel called Pillows, they’ve gone all in on ensuring a pleasant night’s rest.
The Living Resto & Winebar is the name of Pillows’ all-day restaurant and bar, a stylish but casual space that functions as the hotel’s social center. And the Salons are a pair of meeting rooms that do double duty as private dining rooms, in case you’re planning a function. It’s plush hospitality on perhaps a smaller scale than we’re used to in the de facto European capital, and if you know our tastes, you’ll know that’s a good thing indeed.
