MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
Can a Japanese restaurant reinvent itself? The answer at the superb Kemuri, part of the Dani García group, is an unreserved yes. Located next to the glamorous Puente Romano Beach Resort, this restaurant complements the select dining options already available in a district of Marbella frequented by a well-heeled clientele. In its latest incarnation, Kemuri has transformed itself into a type of traditional Japanese “izakaya” inn, with a focus on exclusivity. This is demonstrated by seating for just 14 guests who, having savoured appetisers in a separate space (where they return for dessert), then take their seats at the comfortable sushi bar for the single Omakase menu prepared with premium ingredients (lobster with kombu, sweet octopus, wagyu A5, superb matured tuna etc). The experience usually ends with a delicious artisanal matcha tea prepared with sake lees.
