There’s a strong case to be made that the future of luxury hospitality is in China, where even the 31st-largest city is large enough to sustain a hotel on the scale of Hualuxe Xiamen Haicang. Its twin towers resemble crashing waves, set on the mainland side of the Haicang Bridge, in a massive mixed-use complex with far-ranging views of the harbor and the surrounding scenery. The rooms are luxe and contemporary, though a touch conservative in style; among the public spaces are multiple restaurants and bars, and afternoon tea is served in the towering lobby lounge.
