There’s plenty of room yet in Hungary’s Tokaj wine country for variations on a theme. Andrássy Kúria and Spa, despite its down-home, old-world setting in the picturesque, red-roofed hamlet of Tarcal, is a remarkably luxurious escape. Its hometown pride is evident throughout, from the sumptuous fireplace in the lobby lounge to the natural wood and textile detailing in the rooms. Guided tours of the region are their strong suit; on foot or wheels, through vineyards or picnicking with a castle view, they’re all an excellent excuse to get the lay of the land. Leave some time after tasting tours to wind down in the spa’s thermal cave pools.
