The East Frisian island of Norderney is one of those places where you can find an unlikely thing: a German beach. And on the island’s western tip, mere steps from the town center, is 1884 Norderney, a Wilhelminian villa named for the year of its construction. Life may be simple here, but it’s remarkably stylish as well, both in the soothingly minimalist rooms and suites, many of which have views out to sea, and in the spa, with its Finnish sauna and bio-sauna. Not to be overlooked: Müllers auf Norderney, where chef Nelson Müller serves casual yet high-quality fare inspired by home cooking.
