Named after its late founder, a businessman and art collector devoted to the preservation of Nepal’s cultural heritage, Dwarika’s Hotels is best known for its flagship property in Kathmandu — a one-of-a-kind luxury hotel showcasing a museum-worthy collection of antique woodwork. Following along similar lines is the newer Dwarika’s Resort, a wellness escape located on a hillside in Dhulikhel, with sweeping views of the Himalayas. Like its sister hotel, this resort pays homage to regional tradition in both style and spirit. Its architecture is inspired by the building techniques of the native Newar, constructed using local materials like wood, earth, and stone, with an infrastructure underpinned by age-old practices from rainwater harvesting to solar energy.
The atmosphere is sanctuary-like with a series of yoga decks, an Ayurvedic spa, a Himalayan salt room, a meditation maze, and chakra sound chambers alongside more conventional resort offerings like an infinity pool, a gourmet farm-to-table restaurant, and a glass-walled lounge with sunset views. Suites are spacious, silent, and furnished in all-natural materials: wood-beamed ceilings, parquet floors, Nepalese rugs, and handcrafted textiles. Bathrooms are luxuriously appointed with separate tubs and showers, and stocked with organic bath products made in-house. All open onto outdoor terraces — most private, but some shared — with plush daybeds, and the Royal Suite comes with an outdoor hot tub and a private chef. Even in the simplest room, which includes access to all of the resort’s activities and amenities, peace and well-being feel within easy reach.
