Modern Design & Happening
The name is ever so slightly ambiguous, but a glance at the décor will probably be enough to reveal that this is neither Ohio nor Oxfordshire but Oxford, Mississippi, home of Ole Miss, the University of Mississippi; also home to all things seersucker, sweet tea, and genteel Old South charm. It’s set in the heart of the city, about a mile from campus, and is as well suited to nightlife as it is to the life of the mind.

When it comes to paying tribute to the locale, Graduate hotels always go all the way — but what makes them great is the way they stop just short of theme-hotel kitsch overload. If you’re dead set against mixing patterns, then the gingham, tartan, and polka-dot motif in the guest rooms might cross a line, but for most of us it’s good preppy fun, and it’s accompanied by an up-to-date understanding of what makes a boutique hotel room function properly.

Cabin 82, the hotel’s café, is a detailed homage to the local county fair, as well as a damn fine place for a chicken biscuit. And the Coop, up on the fourth-floor terrace, is an unexpected rooftop restaurant and bar, featuring memorable views of The Square and live blues acts several nights a week.
