Tucked away on an atmospheric side street in the Cretan village of Archanes, Manili Boutique Suites & Villas is perhaps a more modern and stylish luxury boutique hotel than you’d expect to find in this corner of the island, a little less than half an hour inland from the city of Heraklion.
A cluster of whitewashed buildings house rooms with exposed stone walls, minimalist décor in earth hues, handy kitchenettes, and bathrooms with walk-in showers. Some overlook the sunny central courtyard with an aquamarine-tiled swimming pool and lounge chairs, while others face the bistro’s terrace. Multi-level suites and villas benefit from extra space, and some feature private open-air hot tubs with sweeping views of the nearby mountains.
Though there are plenty of reasons to stay in, from the accommodations to the pool to the Manili Bistro, there’s also much to do around the island, and from here the whole of the north-central coast is close at hand.
