Less than two miles from the Austrian border in Germany’s Allgäuer Mountains is a luxury hotel with a name as unique as its setting: Hubertus Unplugged, a 41-room ski-to-door lodge designed for mountain comfort. Alpine-style rooms, solid wood furniture, and unpretentious décor define the interiors; outside, it’s all about the skiing. Guests can exit the hotel and immediately access a cable car station, and the Balderschwang ski area is just beyond the door. Should you want to venture a little farther out, Germany’s longest year-round toboggan run is just a short drive away. Not that you need to go anywhere at all — gourmet international cuisine and hearty breakfasts are served outside on the terrace, with panoramic views of the mountains to enjoy.
