In the seaside town of Camden, Maine, 16 Bay View is just about as central as it gets. It’s just steps from the harbor, set in a century-old red-brick industrial building whose exterior remains lovingly preserved, even as its interiors have been thoroughly transformed. It’s mostly a functional transformation, dividing its spaces into boutique-style luxury-hotel rooms and suites, all designed and decorated in a style that complements the historic structure — despite details like gas fireplaces and built-in flat-screens, 16 Bay View retains an atmosphere that’s pleasantly reminiscent of its original era.

There’s some variation in size and layout, but they’re uniformly lavish, with high-end beds and bedding, spa-like bathrooms with heated floors, and a full complement of luxe comforts like Turkish Towel Company linens and Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Despite a location alongside one of Camden’s livelier streets, there’s plenty of privacy to be had, even in the street-facing rooms. And while there’s no shortage of places to eat and drink nearby, 16 Bay View’s own restaurant and bar, the throwback-style Vintage Room, is well worth your time — as is the harborside rooftop bar.
