One Star: High quality cooking
Founder Kumasaburo was a chef who made a name for himself in itamae kappo. Third-generation owner-chef Kumasaburo carries on the Tankuma tradition with his son. They serve ‘monmo’ dishes, in Kyoto dialect meaning ‘as-is’, so as to bring out the natural flavours of the ingredients. The horakuyaki dish featuring barracuda and matsutake smoked with pine needles is an autumn speciality. Enjoy the Higashiyama Sanjuroppo scenery from the premises on the Kamogawa River.
