Travelers in search of a certain type of glamour in Palm Springs would be hard pressed to do better than the Ingleside Inn. For kidney-shaped pools and space-age modernism you’ll look elsewhere — this Rat Pack–era institution is Spanish Revival through and through, and while it’s been brought very much up to date, the atmosphere is still steeped in Old Hollywood romance.

The rooms and suites are elegant above all, with plenty of historical detail alongside the expected modern conveniences; some come with patios, courtyards, and/or fireplaces, and they’re all refreshingly unique, owing to the twists and turns of the existing floor plan. Custom linens and terrycloth robes accentuate the decadent vibe — the living here is easy indeed.

And the Ingleside Inn benefits from its close connection with its sister hotel, the Avalon Hotel & Bungalows Palm Springs, located literally right next door. The Ingleside has its own pool, and it’s a lovely one, but it’s supplemented by three more pools at the Avalon. Melvyn’s, the Ingleside’s restaurant, pays swanky tribute to its Sinatra-era heyday, as does the Casablanca Lounge — joined, again, by the neighboring Chi Chi, the Avalon’s upscale Californian restaurant.
