The quiet driveway leading to Mas de Lafeuillade is lined with centuries-old trees and contemporary abstract sculptures, which gives you an idea of what you’ll find when you reach the front door. The family estate features an Italianesque villa that’s been smartly transformed into a boutique hotel and bistro. The interiors exude classic elegance with a modern twist: heirloom antiques alongside Eames chairs, Scandinavian tables next to framed Keith Haring prints, and Art Deco lamps illuminating original pieces by French street artists. Five individually decorated guest rooms are large and light-filled with luxurious linens, walk-in closets, and beautifully tiled bathrooms with clawfoot tubs. All look out over peaceful gardens laced with walking paths and dotted with marble statuary and stone fountains. You’ll enjoy the same view while dining on the terrace at the first-class restaurant downstairs, which includes several indoor and outdoor venues, including a retro cocktail bar that’s perfect for a nightcap after dinner. The historic center of Montpellier is a ten-minute pedal away on one of the hotel’s bicycles.

The hotel is a bit quirky. It's far more BNB than hotel. There is no lift to the second floor rooms. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, but the rug in the room needed to be refreshed, and the tub was only kindof a shower. Good value for the dollar and beautiful garden setting. Travel light and enjoy.
