MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View
Chef Gary Danko opened his eponymous restaurant in 1999 and over the years made himself and his dining room synonymous with San Francisco fine dining. Located in Fisherman's Wharf, the restaurant continues to be a busy beacon for business types, celebratory couples, and well-heeled families. The cooking is rooted in classic French cuisine with a wandering sense of global inspiration. Diners select from a prix-fixe of three to five courses, with ample options in each category of appetizer, seafood, meat, and dessert. Those who aren’t in the mood to decide can hand over the reins to the chef’s tasting menu. An extensive wine list, servers dressed in dark suits, and an impressively large cheese trolley round out the vintage experience.
