Paneled walls and patterned wallpapers feel like something from a country mansion, or the cabin of a transatlantic steamer — albeit one with a city view. Nearby, the new Stendhal Luxury Suites offer accommodations with a touch more contemporary flair, including modern fixtures in the bathrooms and tasteful patterns in the furnishings.

Ultimately, though, the location is the key to the Stendhal’s appeal. The surrounding streets are teeming with restaurants and shops, and there are enough nearby museums and art galleries to induce another attack in the Stendhal-prone — not to mention the Villa Borghese, one of Rome’s largest and most scenic private parks, just 400 meters to the north.
