Don’t worry, it’s early days, and the prospect of some soulless mega-resort is a long way off; for now, the apex of the tourist trade on the Emerald Coast is something more along the lines of stylish boutique hotels like Meson Nadi.
Meson Nadi’s setting, a few minutes down the coast from the surfers’ mecca of Popoyo, is extraordinary, just across the road from the beach, on a beautiful bay where the sunsets are predictably outrageous. With just six suites, the atmosphere is unusually intimate, and the style is memorable, a mix of indigenous craft and Bauhaus modernism. Little things like air conditioning and wi-fi go a long way here, and the comforts are first-rate.
A pool, yoga lessons, a spa and a small restaurant make Meson Nadi an appealing enough place to pass the day — though you’re within striking distance of no fewer than twenty surf breaks, and volcano hikes and motorcycle tours are on the menu as well, if you’re up for something a bit more active. Just be sure you’re back in time for sunset.
