With prime urban real estate like this, you might expect space to be at a premium. But the Royal Sonesta’s rooms are surprisingly spacious, even in the standard category. The look is modern and pared-down, with ample natural light, earth tones, framed black and white photography, and colorful accents like tufted emerald-green headboards and abstract artwork. Cozy seating areas and coffee stations are welcome amenities, especially in rooms with river views, and bathrooms feature white subway tile and flattering in-mirror lighting. There’s no pool or spa, though you might not even notice at a location like this, within walking distance of everything in downtown Chicago.
