Occupying a distinctive 1930s building that originally housed workers for the Barolo vineyards, Hotel Le Case dei Conti is now a decidedly upmarket affair, furnished by a who’s-who of contemporary Italian designers and manufacturers. Its setting, on the Fontanafredda wine estate, is idyllic, as are the views of the rolling hillsides from the bedroom windows. 11 more rooms occupy the Foresteria, the old 19th-century plant nursery, and the village remains as a living museum to the history of the winemaking craft. At the center of the village is Osteria Disguido, serving simple, traditional fare crafted from the finest local ingredients.
