The first Dorsett hotel in London was out west, in Shepherd’s Bush, but the second one is a fair bit more central, at least if you’re in banking or finance — Dorsett City London lies on the eastern edge of the City proper, right atop Aldgate Station. There’s a certain symmetry in the idea of a Hong Kong–based hotel group coming full circle and installing itself in this nexus of global commerce, and the Dorsett makes no secret of its origins, from the subtle red and gold accents in the interiors to the concepts of the restaurants and bars, especially Shikumen, the Shanghai-style eatery, and Jin Bo Law, the soon-to-open sky bar.
Though it’s well suited to leisure guests, the Dorsett City, by virtue of its location, sees more than a bit of business. Your room comes equipped with a smartphone, in case yours doesn’t travel well, and you’ve got 24-hour service, a 24-hour gym, and plentiful meeting space, as well as free wi-fi throughout the hotel. And in this town, no stranger to extravagant luxury, the Dorsett City may feel a touch modest, but only by comparison — the comforts and conveniences are first-rate.
