Ideally located for lovers of ancient monuments, Anthology of Athens stands between the Acropolis and what remains of the Temple of Olympian Zeus; many rooms, in fact, look directly out over the columns and toppled stones of the latter site. It takes some confident contemporary architecture to stand confidently in such company, but this five-story structure is up to the task.
It’s not unimpressive inside, either; the central atrium is home to a cascading vertical garden, and clean-lined contemporary furniture cuts a sleek figure alongside polished stone that recalls the ancient sites. Meanwhile the elegant rooms and suites, decked out in an earthy palette of sage and ivory, feature parquet floors, king-sized beds, and sleek marble bathrooms; the aptly named Zeus Presidential Suite features an ivy-framed Jacuzzi with its own dazzling view.
An all-day bistro occupies the atrium space, while the rooftop fine-dining restaurant features its own ornamental gardens and its own impressive elevated views.
