French château hotels don’t get much more picturesque than Château de Dissay, The Originals Collection, which was built by the bishop of Poitiers in the 15th century. It’s surrounded by 15 acres of gardens and parkland, and in its current incarnation contains 33 luxurious rooms and suites, all of which are set within the original château, and combine a historically correct authenticity with just a touch of contemporary interior design. The restaurant crafts a new modern French menu every fortnight from impeccably sourced local produce; the château’s old billiards room now serves as the hotel’s cocktail bar.
