Like it or not, Zanzibar now registers on most tourists’ radar; increased traffic over the years has mostly shifted the genre from “adventure junkies and immersionists only” to “government-sponsored Indian Ocean hotspot.” Get outside Stone Town though, and the mythic character re-emerges, particularly at the extreme northern tip, and even more particularly on the northeast shore of the village of Nungwi.
