Modern Design & Lively
Hampton Court, residence of Henry VIII, is one of England’s best-preserved palaces, and the adjacent Mitre Hotel was originally built by Charles II to handle surplus guests at his court. The current structure, rebuilt in the 18th century, makes much of cheerful, maximalist interiors by Nicola Harding as well as a couple of restaurants by chef Ronnie Kimbugwe. Each of its 36 rooms differs in layout and in design, though all, from the humblest Classic room to the Catherine Parr and Henry VIII suites, is faultlessly comfortable. From here a visit to Hampton Court or a boat trip on the Thames are practically obligatory.
