Terminal Neige Totem
Forget about the woodsy charm of the classic Alpine lodge: even in its previous incarnation, Terminal Neige Totem was never quite that. The building is a Brutalist concrete structure, and inside, the look is coolly industrial. In the current boutique-hotel style, the ground level is open and informal, featuring a bar, an equipment rental desk, and, of course, an assortment of fit, beautiful people, bundled up, sipping cappuccino and lounging around on bespoke chairs. Colorful woven rugs, vintage-inspired decor, and animal fur throws warm up the concrete modern interior, along with modern light fixtures and crackling fireplaces. Large picture windows showcase the towering evergreens outside, branches heavily laden with snow.
There are nearly a hundred guest rooms and suites at Terminal Neige Totem, all outfitted in crisp black and white: think graphic prints, cowhide accents, and sliding glass doors opening onto private balconies. Suites have separate seating areas, but there’s nothing over-the-top here. This is a hotel that’s centered around communal spaces. You’ll mingle with other guests at the Pure Altitude Spa, with its outdoor hot tub, gym, and sauna, and at meals, as both breakfast and dinner are served buffet-style. Go ahead, indulge in seconds or thirds: you’ll be glad you did when you’re out on the slopes. The Grandes Platières gondola — and, by extension, the wonderland of the Grand Massif — is just a short glide away.
Please note: This is a seasonal hotel with reservations available from mid-December through mid-April.
How to get there: Terminal Neige Totem is just over an hour and a half by car from Geneva International Airport via A40; alternatively, it's 2.5 hours from Lyon-Saint Exupéry Airport via A43.
