Plenty of people are Francophiles. But the French duo behind Palika Lodge are a couple of Indophiles. Inspired by years of traveling through India sourcing products for their shop in Léon, they’ve opened a glamping-style boutique hotel beside a stream in the forested Les Landes region. In addition to a couple of more conventional guest rooms, the hotel features tented safari suites modeled after Shikar tents traditionally used for traveling Maharajahs. Each eco-friendly lodging is built of larch wood and water-resistant cotton canvas; inside, they’re rustic but elegant, with king-sized beds, woolen rugs, locally sourced antiques, and colorful textiles. Each has a terrace overlooking the pines and a private bath stocked with organic products, though you’ll have to walk there: the bathrooms are slightly removed from the tents in the central Le Lavoir complex. Get into the spirit of the place with a cup of tea beside the nearby lake or a yoga class at dawn.
