Grand Hôtel La Cloche is, from the outside, an absolutely spectacular Belle Époque edifice, dating back to the 1880s. Which makes it all the more surprising that its interiors should be as unmistakably modern as they are. There are hints of Art Deco and high Modernism but the overall impression is that of a luxury hotel that’s as stylish as many a boutique hotel, and comes with a historical depth that they can’t match — for two examples, take the restaurant, Les Jardins, with its antique glass wall, and the spa, set in the building’s old vaulted cellars.
