Modern Design & Quiet
Green isn’t the first color most travelers associate with Rajsasthan’s Thar Desert, but Maro Khet can rightly call itself an oasis. Before it was a hotel, it was a working farm, and still is — its restaurants serve only a small portion of what’s produced in its fields, gardens and orchards. To all of this Maro Khet adds just 10 cottages, each one a distinct variation on an eclectic style that includes traditional and contemporary influences and effortlessly combines hand-crafted décor with tastefully modern luxuries.

Each comes with two outdoor decks, one oriented towards the sunrise and the other the sunset; inside there’s an open-air meditation courtyard, and the spa-like bathrooms are calming in their own way. Meanwhile the farm’s produce is the raw material for no fewer than three restaurants, if you define “restaurants” generously: there’s a poolside café, an all-day restaurant and bar, and an outdoor dining experience comprising nine courses served at a communal table in the guava orchard. All of this is accompanied by activities like cooking classes, walking tours, cultural performances, and more — safe to say there’s not much that’s ordinary here.
