KOSMOS Ulleungdo
Gyeongsangbuk-do, South KoreaA few dozen miles off Korea’s east coast is Ulleungdo, a volcanic island rich in natural grandeur and steep, breathtaking views. Kosmos Ulleungdo is planted like a docked spaceship on the edge of these cliffs, the vision of architect Kim Chan Jung made real through ambitious curves, spirals and futuristic domes.

Hotel Vila Selvagem
Pontal de Maceió, BrazilNot all Brazilian beaches were created equal, which stands to reason – it’s one of the longest coastlines in the world. But lots of locals say the best ones are in the northeast. That’s where you’ll find the Hotel Vila Selvagem, an elegant but down-to-earth boutique hotel in the fishing village of Pontal de Maceió.

Alpine Boutique Villa Gabriela
Castelrotto, ItalyHigh up in the Dolomites, the adults-only Alpine Boutique Villa Gabriela is a year-round mountain retreat where you can do as much, or as little, as you like. 10 cosy rooms are dressed in a contemporary Alpine style, with wood panelling and soft textiles, and some have added extras such as balconies or Finnish saunas.

Bethlen Estates Transylvania
Transylvania, RomaniaLike many great hotels, Bethlen Estates pushes the boundaries of the concept. No mere collection of rooms, it’s a reclamation project, a once-abandoned village whose centuries-old buildings have been restored by a family with deep local roots and turned into a 10-room hotel that's as unique as they come.

Ca’n Beneït
Binibona, SpainWith its remote location perched up on a hill overlooking the peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana, Ca’n Beneït is a place to get away from it all. Just 10 rooms are housed in the carefully restored 200-year-old former chapel, which sits surrounded by 70 hectares of organic gardens, orchards and olive groves.

The Cavendish Hotel at Baslow
Bakewell, UKWhile you can visit the historic Chatsworth Estate as a day tripper, staying at The Cavendish allows some time for exploring more of the estate’s 1,000 plus acres, and for taking in the beauty of the Peak District. Guestrooms all come with a view of the verdant estate and put a contemporary riff on its rich heritage.

FORTH Hotel Atlanta
Atlanta, GA, USAAtlanta’s historic Old Fourth Ward is known more for being a culinary hotspot than a hotel hotspot. That's changing thanks to the Forth Hotel. Behind a strikingly geometric glass and concrete facade, the interior aesthetic mixes minimalist and romantic, with bold floral wallpaper, dark wood furnishings and sleek bathrooms.

Majagua Boutique Hotel
Oaxaca City, MexicoMajagua does things differently. It’s housed in a restored 1950s Art Deco mansion, a rarity in the region, and is adults-only, with complimentary craft cocktails served at check-in. Rooms are light-filled and design-forward, with bespoke furnishings, artisan-made textiles and eclectic art objects from Asia and Africa.

The Lake House on Canandaigua
Canandaigua, NY, USAOutdoor activities are plentiful any time of year in the Finger Lakes, from skiing in winter to summer sipping at any of the region’s vineyards. Of course, there’s also plenty to do right here at The Lake House, where the hotel’s classic exterior belies Scandi-chic interiors and the restaurant is a regional favourite.

Nishi Apartments by Ovolo
Canberra, AustraliaDesign underpins this boutique hotel brand, which here means a moody urban mix of rustic timber, concrete and clay walls, as well as a mash-up of vintage furnishings and original artwork. The brand’s core 'basic' facilities include a not-so-basic mix of free yoga classes, a gym with lake views and even laundry service.
And there you have it. 10 of the best hotels recently added to our bespoke MICHELIN Guide hotel collection, a highly curated selection that covers all of your hotel needs, from glampsites, treehouses and hotels built of ice to peaceful Venetian hideaways, Northern Lights packages and luxurious mountainside wellness/activity retreats.
