Here the name can be taken quite literally. Hôtel La Citadelle Metz is indeed a citadel, or part of one — it’s a transformation of a 16th-century barracks building in Metz’s city center. Now a part of Accor’s MGallery collection, it’s a distinctive and unusual hotel. The rooms, far from their antique military inspiration, are surprisingly modern in design, with unusual layouts owing to the historical floor plan. La Réserve, the restaurant, operates on the site of what was once the citadel’s food-storage warehouse, and features a menu that bridges the gap between bistro fare and fine dining.
