The landmark that is the 1940s-era armory building once used by the Montana Army National Guard has been augmented by a substantial contemporary addition; the result is the city’s first luxury boutique hotel.
And an impressive one it is. Inside, the look is sophisticated and modern with rugged details — hand-stitched leather and wood, a rooftop fire pit, a basement whiskey bar — that are in keeping with the building’s origins and the destination itself, a hub for outdoor adventure. Rooms are elegant but down-to-earth, featuring custom beds with Frette linens, warm lighting, large workspaces, cozy throws and pillows in plaid flannel, and minibars stocked with local treats. Bathrooms are as sleek as you’d expect at a Kimpton hotel, as are other amenities the brand is known for: an evening happy hour, a 24-hour fitness center, and complimentary bicycles.
Other highlights include the outdoor pool on the terrace, conveniently heated year-round, loaner snowshoes and sleds, and the rooftop bar with views of the Rocky Mountains — there’s even a pop-up winter chalet where you can warm up with a glass of wine while protected from the elements.
