Hotel de Silhouette

30 rue Gambetta, Quartier des Halles, Biarritz, France
20 Rooms
Modern Design & Lively
Sitting in the heart of the lively Quartier des Halles and within easy walking distance of the beach, Hôtel de Silhouette is housed is in one of Biarritz’s oldest buildings. Not that you would guess it now from its bright and contemporary interiors, although if you look up you can still spot a family coat of arms engraved about the hotel’s entrance, which marks out the 17th century building as the former home of Etienne de Silhouette, a finance minister during the reign of King Louis XV.

It now houses 21 rooms and suites, warmly dressed with rich earthy shades of tobacco brown, rust red, and terracotta, and wallpapers depicting leafy palms, perhaps a nod to the verdant garden outside. Larger rooms come with a balcony, and rooms on the higher floors with an ocean view. If it’s more privacy you want, then just a few steps away from the hotel is Maison Silhouette, home to just six suites and designed for groups and long-term stays, particularly in rooms which come with their own kitchenette. Facilities are open to all guests, including Restaurant Jardin for seasonal dishes that champion local produce, and the garden bar, which serves a specially curated local wine list.
