The century-old Hotel Continental is a grand hotel in the classic tradition, family-owned since 1900. Though it’s no museum piece — with rooms and public spaces subtly updated over the years — it’s certainly not a “design hotel” either.
Its location is hard to beat: just steps from the National Theatre, the Royal Palace, and the high-street shops of Karl Johans gate, and only a short walk to the waterfront. Dining has long been one of the Continental’s strong suits. The Viennese-style Theatercaféen is a beloved local institutions, while the lavish breakfast buffet is a highlight not to be missed.
The hotel’s mainstay clientele may be buttoned-up executive travelers — the Economist-reading set — but it has plenty of personality to appeal more broadly.
