The StandardX lands in Fitzroy with a raw, playful energy that fits right into the neighborhood’s jumble of art studios, vintage stores, and warehouse bars. It is the first of the group’s new offshoot, and the mood here is more local hangout than hotel. It is looser than its older siblings, both in tone and design with lacquered red accents, concrete walls, and sculptural furniture throughout. Local artists shaped everything from the lobby installations to the in-room details. The rooftop serves cocktails with skyline views, while downstairs, Bang offers seasonal plates and Melbourne-made wines.
