The owners of a highly regarded restaurant in Ljubljana are behind this mountain escape, a sloping modernist structure on the hillside above the Julian Alpine village of Gozd Martuljek. Chalet Sofija contains a mere five suites, which range from the merely lavish Suite Izabela, with its panoramic views and 60 square meters of space, to the extraordinary Presidential Suite Izak, whose vast outdoor terrace nearly doubles its already generous area.
Luxurious as they are, the accommodations are only part of the package. As you’d expect from restaurateurs of this caliber, Chalet Sofija places equal emphasis on its gourmet restaurant, where the hotel’s chef-owner personally mans the open kitchen in a dining room surrounded by distant mountain peaks.
