There’s nothing but fir trees and quiet mountain trails around MANNA Arcadia, tucked away in the highlands of Greece’s central Peloponnese. The high-altitude location was specifically chosen for its healing properties: opened in the late 1920s, this building first served as a sanatorium for soldiers. After the introduction of penicillin, the solitary stone lodge sat abandoned for decades until it was acquired by a Greek entrepreneur, who worked with a team of archaeologists to carefully restore the landmark and transform it into a luxury hotel.
The property’s original function — a peaceful escape immersed in nature — remains largely the same, so minimal intervention was key to the overhaul. The interiors are modern, light-filled, and lined in pale wood. Rooms have king-sized beds with raw linen duvets, heated floors, sustainably crafted bath products, and views of the surrounding forest. Most have private balconies; suites feature built-in sofas and large wooden decks, and a few have freestanding copper bathtubs. A major highlight is, naturally, the wellness area with its cave pool, sauna, hammam, and fireplace-warmed yoga room. Hiking, skiing, horseback riding, and mushroom hunting are all easily arranged nearby, and before and after the day’s outdoor adventures, MANNA’s cozy all-day restaurant serves creative Greek cuisine made with local and seasonal ingredients.
