Though it’s less than an hour from Lisbon, Immerso feels like a properly secluded escape. It’s set on a hillside overlooking the Atlantic, just a mile from Ericeira, the first World Surfing Reserve in Europe. And while the famous breaks are a major draw, what Immerso immerses you in is not the sea, per se, but the easy life of a high-end, high-design luxury boutique hotel.

Immerso’s founders are designers themselves, and their fine taste is on display in every aspect of the hotel, from the clean and sustainable contemporary architecture to the minimalist-yet-warm interior design and the extraordinary collection of Portuguese artworks. Wraparound terraces provide direct access to the sea air, and some of the suites have deep soaking tubs with views.

For relaxation there’s a yoga deck, a pair of pools, and a spa; restaurants include a poolside bar and a pair of restaurants by an award-winning chef.
