The port town of Tomonoura is one of Japan’s most picturesque places, and was part of the inspiration for the Studio Ghibli film Ponyo. It’s here that Migiwatei Ochi Kochi stands on the shore of the Seto Inland Sea, facing a trio of lush green islands. Each of its rooms features an open-air onsen bath that shares in the same panoramic sea view; all are furnished in a hybrid style that blends contemporary luxury with Japanese tradition. Two larger private baths are available for guest use, and the restaurant serves a cuisine that’s focused on local flavors and seafood.
