Modern Design & Lively
A 1907 building in Pioneer Square, the city’s oldest and most historic neighborhood, is the setting for Populus Seattle, the second “carbon-positive” hotel in the United States. (The first was Populus Denver.) This means not just conservation measures like adaptive-reuse construction and a pedestrian-friendly location, but active measures like planting a tree for every hotel stay.

Of course, carbon math isn’t all that matters. Populus Seattle also benefits from rooms and suites that are modern with a warm retro edge, and comforts that are substantial, if not opulent. Salt Harvest, the restaurant, serves upscale Pacific Northwest fare, while Firn, the open-air rooftop bar, shows off the redeveloped waterfront. Meanwhile a ground-floor café represents Seattle’s coffee culture, and more than a few local attractions are close at hand, from Lumen Field and T-Mobile Park to Pike Place Market and the whole of downtown.
