Modern Design 和 Happening

Most people’s vision of a Balinese hotel doesn’t involve a modern red-brick structure that soars higher than the tree line. But as you might guess from the name, Potato Head Suites & Studios is not a typical Balinese hotel. More than just a hotel, Desa Potato Head is a “creative village” that also serves as a gathering and events space for the local community, designed by architect Rem Koolhaas’s OMA.

This explains the architecture, which finds a fertile middle ground between neo-Brutalism and Indonesian tradition. It also explains such interior-design flourishes as Le Corbusier’s Thonet No. B9 Chair, the Pendant lamp ph5 1958 by Louis Poulsen and the Lampe Gras 1921 by Bernard- Albin Gras. Situated in separate wings, the Suites are the high-end option, while the Studios come in at a more attainable price point, though there’s considerable overlap between the two ranges. All of them feature king beds and custom-made organic bath products, and all are cut from the same crisp and contemporary stylistic cloth.

Thanks to Desa Potato Head’s substantial scale, guests benefit from a resort-like array of amenities, from the Sanctuary Wellness Centre to multiple restaurants, including one entirely plant-based option. There’s always the beach, of course, as well as the by now somewhat legendary Potato Head Beach Club.
