Right in the heart of El Nido town, The Funny Lion is a well-located base for exploring one of the Philippines’ most cinematic landscapes. The 50 rooms are smartly laid out, with locally sourced materials, clever lighting, and breezy balconies overlooking the pool and plenty of little comforts for downtime between adventures. The all-day restaurant takes design cues from the region’s limestone cliffs, and opens onto a terrace for al fresco dining, perhaps after an aperitif at the Poolside Bar. The locally sourced menu focuses on fresh seafood alongside a mix of Asian and Continental dishes, and on Friday nights the hotel fires up the grill for its weekly fire buffet. Other facilities include a gym and the Sea Tree Spa, where soothing treatments are based around natural local ingredients and traditional Filipino therapies.
