Awai Togakushi
戸隠3390, Nagano, Japan
3 Rooms
Modern Design & Quiet
High in the Togakushi mountains, Awai offers two distinct stays: a minimalist former public hall for two, and a traditional thatched-roof home shaped by generations of local craftsmanship. The thatching process is part of a broader philosophy, drawn from “yui,” the mutual-aid systems that once sustained rural Japan. Guests are invited to slow down in a setting shaped by nature, history, and intention. Days unfold between forest walks, nearby shrines, and shared meals made with local ingredients. You come for the setting, and stay for how easy it all feels.
