The Thief

Landgangen 1, Oslo, Norway

Modern Design & Happening
The Thief’s name is a clever one, with roots in local history: the hotel is built on Tjuvholmen — Thief Islet — once a haven for smugglers, thieves, and scoundrels. The name, however, is all that remains of the past — as a hotel, The Thief is bright and open, the sort of place you’re in no hurry to escape, unless it’s simply to pop over to the Renzo Piano–designed modern art museum just next door. Tjuvholmen itself is now a thriving arts-and-culture district, complete with a vibrant dining and nightlife scene.

The rooms are as stylish as the rest of this contemporary development, though perhaps richer and warmer in color and texture than one might expect from the classic Scandinavian stereotype. And despite its humble name, The Thief sits firmly at the upscale end of boutique hospitality — the in-room technology is thoughtfully chosen, and (this being Norway) particular attention is paid to the bedding and the warm wool slippers.

The hotel also boasts a stunning rooftop terrace with panoramic views over the fjord, perfect for evening drinks or a peaceful escape, as well as an exceptional spa featuring a heated pool, multiple saunas, and indulgent treatments — a luxurious wellness experience that sets The Thief apart in the city.
